An important part of the process for developing a strategic plan is to have a strong sense of where you are going, what your day-to-day focus is and determining what values will guide your steps. InnerComm helps local government teams develop this important foundation for future excellence.
We take you through a guided process of collecting input from the team (and others) and then coalescing that input to create a final product.
If you’re team has no clear direction for the future, nor a strong sense of today’s mission or values, feel free to call us to talk about your organization’s needs.
Vision is all about the type of future your team desires….where are you headed and what your aspirations are for the future.
Put another way, “what kind of future do you want to create“?
This is a most basic of questions, yet, most organizations do not have or move toward a clearly defined vision. As well, employees are unclear on vision and do not see how their work contributes to the vision.
Without a clear, compelling vision teams don’t leverage their strengths toward a common goal. However, with a clear vision, there is an alignment of purpose and effort throughout the organization…helping insure that the team moves toward the ultimate destination. Potential employees, customers and vendors also support the vision in their participation with the organization.
InnerComm helps teams uncover and clarify this vital element of the organization through 1/2 day training sessions and subsequent coaching and consulting to insure that a plan is implemented to communicate the vision.
Having a clear mission insures that your team focuses on its day-to-day purpose and does not get sidetracked by the “flavor of the day” or other distractions.
Unlike a vision (which describes a future state), a mission is a clear message that explains what your team does
today. It answers three questions:
- What do you do?
- How do you do it?
- Who do you serve?
Like values, a mission helps guide the organization and keeps it “between the guardrails”. Having a clear mission helps make decisions easier since there is agreement on what the organization does. Likewise, it means you may have to forgo other “opportunities” that are not in alignment to the mission.
We work with local government teams to insure that their mission and vision don’t become mere plaques on the wall, but rather active guides for the organization. We accomplish this through the development of regular team communications, leadership coaching and visual tools.
Whether stated or unstated, underlying every organization’s productivity and effectiveness are a set of values and beliefs that unite, motivate and guide decisions.
We help organizations mine their people, culture and processes to uncover their essential core values.
- What do you and your staff deem as the core values that guide your organization?
- What values do you live by at work and what do your customers value about you – how do you aspire to act and treat others?
InnerComm helps organizations identify and/or re-tool existing values and then articulate them in simple, actionable terms. We work with you and your team to uncover what you are really about and help you gain consensus among the team. Both internal and external values (those admired by customers) are vital to communicating your identity and what you stand for.
